Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know about how Cortex works.
What is Cortex?
Cortex is a Chrome extension that lets you share any page, link, image, or selection without leaving the page you are on. Press and hold your mouse anywhere, a radial pie menu blooms from your cursor, slide toward the network you want, and release. That is the whole thing.
How do I use it?
Hold your mouse button down anywhere on a page for about half a second. The pie menu appears at your cursor. Slide in the direction of a network and let go to share. To add a message, hold on a slice instead of releasing right away.
Which networks are supported?
Gmail, Tumblr, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Instapaper, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Reddit. You choose which ones appear in your menu from the settings page.
Is it free?
Yes. Cortex is free to install and use.
Do I have to connect my accounts?
Only for the networks you want to post to directly. Several networks (like Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp, and Telegram) open their own share screen with your content pre-filled, so no login is stored. Others (like Gmail and Tumblr) connect securely through their official sign-in so you can post in one gesture.
What happens to my data?
Cortex stores your settings and any account tokens locally in your browser. It does not run its own server that collects your browsing or your posts. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Can I undo a share?
Yes. After you share, a confirmation appears with an undo option for a few seconds, so a misfire is never permanent.
Which browsers does it work on?
Cortex is built for Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (such as Brave and Edge) that support Chrome extensions.
